Social Cohesion and Reconciliation Activity (SCORE)- Ampara 2019-2021

The Social Cohesion and Reconciliation Project funded by the USAID and technical support of Global Communities was initiated and implemented by PALM to enhance social cohesion and reconciliation among different ethnic and religious background people in Ampara district. The project intervention are tries to build social cohesion and reconciliation in five Grama Niladhari Divisions, belonging to three Divisional Secretariat Divisions of Ampara District. Saddathisapura and Indrasarapura GNDs fall under Ampara divisional secretariat division, Varipathanchenai-01 and Varipathanchenai-02 fall under Irakkamam divisional secretariat division, Central Camp-3 is belong to Navithaveli divisional secretariat division. The target areas were selected where re-presenting multi-ethnic, multi- religious and multi-cultural communities live tighter or side by side, therefore social cohesion and reconciliation is must for them to live their life peacefully in their day to day life. This is the foremost reason to select the areas to implement the SCORE project. 

  1. To raise awareness on reconciliation and social cohesion among youth, religious leaders & the business Community through reconciliation champions.
  2. Capacity building of co-existence societies in the target GND

Support formation and reactivation of CESs and other community platforms

Sanitization and Disinfection by spraying antivirus chemicals in public places to prevent or minimize the risk of spreading COVID-19 virus.  Spray programme activities implemented in 05 GN divisions in selected 03 DS divisions in Ampara district.

The activities were organized by the Champions the surrounding Muslim, Buddhist, Hindu and Christianity communities, Religious leaders, Business community, Youths and Government officials were participated in these programmes

End of the project activities we can able to achieve the objectives. The main aspect we were achieved was to enhance and increase social cohesion and reconciliation among the people and made some positive changes and environment to successfully implement the Programme. We were able to create awareness on the concept on cohesion and reconciliation and made them aware on the historical failures which created problem among them and made them to realize the significant and important part of reconciliation which helps them to works very closely among multi- ethnic, multi-cultural environmental settings.
