The Safe Drinking Water Project – TUK TUK proposal mainly targets Manmunai South West Paddipalai in the Batticaloa District. The project aims to address the urgent need for managing floods and droughts by providing safe drinking water and hygiene facilities in this district affected by war and disasters. Therefore, the Safe Drinking Water Project, supported by TUK TUK, will intervene in the short term to address these issues.
Objectives
Conduct a baseline survey in the identified Manmunai South West Paddipalai area, comprising 5 Grama Niladhari Divisions (GNs), focusing on Drinking Water, Sanitation, Hygiene, and Gender. The goal is to establish initial data to accurately assess the program’s impacts both in the short term and upon completion.
Enhance the capacity of 50 Safe Drinking Water facilities within the selected 05 GN divisions to develop disaster early warning plans as part of this project
Demonstrate the positive impact of the program, encouraging proactive responses for policy reactivation and resource mobilization at the Grama Niladhari Division (GND), Divisional Secretariat Division (DSD), and District levels to address the Safe Drinking Water needs of vulnerable communities in the district.
Ensure the preservation of the natural environment and prevent any harm
Expected Outcome
Access to safe drinking water by the highly vulnerable through selected number of drinking water connections in the Manmunai South West as a Safe drinking water connection action.
Ensure promotion of good hygiene practices related to water and sanitation.
