“Water Supply and Hygiene Promotion Project for 200 families”

Introduction:
PALM is committed to providing clean and safe drinking water to flood and drought-stricken people in the Eastern and Northern provinces in Srilanka. In collaboration with the National Water Supply and Drainage Board (NWSDB) of Srilanka, drinking water connection for the people have been provided through the PAL.M.
This Project is focused Thirukovil Division in the Ampara District. PALM from its inception has identified a great need for uplifting and provision of drinking water, hygiene facilities in those Thambiluvil ,Thirukkovil , Vinnayagapuram Thampattai ,Sankamankiramam and Palakkuda GND’s. Especially, Water related health improvement activities and environment cleaning programs also carried out for the beneficiaries in selected area along with the drinking water connections. 200 Families have access for safe and clean drinking water and conducted hygiene promotion awareness also.
Behalf of the poor people and Sri Lankan government, PALM take this opportunity to convey our humble gratitude thanks to Mr. Maarten who coordinates this project with donor. Before implement the Project: Impact in brief
After the onset of heavy rain fall these villages getting flooded condition and so the dug wells were filled by flood water this water brings dirt materials from excreted of living beings and contaminated by harmful microorganisms, such as bacteria, Viruses these organisms cause Dharia, Typhoid, Desintry etc….. There for people especially children frequently affected by this water borne diseases in every rainy season and they lost their healthy life and they returned to vulnerable condition. In rainy season dug wells getting able amount of water but they are different taste not suited to drinking, change in colour, getting dust particles, and bad odder and going to unusable condition.
In drought season dug wells drawn out all the water and seems as compost pit. So, people difficult to access water to drink. during this period peoples getting water from 1 or 2 common well found in village and water supply connections already existing in neighbour house, in this situation they spent lot of time to getting water. School children getting late to attend school because they spent lot of time to get water from common wells.People especially children frequently affected by the water borne diseases such as Daria, Decentre, Thyroid in every rainy season and they lost their healthy life and they returned to vulnerable condition.
